| Subject: Dear Fanfiction Writers of Smut (Explicit Content Warning: Preferably, only read this if you're considered an adult where you live. Or, if you write smut. I can't say anything, I wrote it when I was 16. XD) Sun Jul 13, 2014 3:04 pm | |
| Dear Fanfiction Writers of Smut, After approximately six years of exposure to smut, I have found things that I feel need to be cleared up. Keep in mind, these are my opinions and beliefs. I do not intend to bash anyone's writing style or works. These are simply things that I feel would make the community better. In relation to all pairingsThere are few non-specific things I have issues with. However, there are things that I do. - Spoiler:
- No matter what pairing you may be writing, keep character appropriate terminology please. If you're writing a character with average level intelligence who uses a lot of slang, dick/cock/schlong/etc. or cunt/pussy/etc. is fine. But if you're writing a genius or someone who doesn't use much slang, penis and vagina work wonders for keeping in character. - Sex is messy! After the climax, the receiving partner will likely leak a few teaspoons of siminal fluid/vaginal lubrication out. Be prepared to explain its appearance if the encounter occurs in a publically visible place. (Though broom/supply closets will likely go unnoticed. Unless 90% of the cast are geniuses. Just saying.) On writing a male characters (Het or yaoi)- Spoiler:
- Please, please, PLEASE keep male anatomical limitations in mind. Most guys cannot orgasm without ejaculation multiple times without practice. Also, there is normally a "rest" period of 15-20 minutes between an ejaculation and when they can next be aroused. This also means no ejaculation and then BAM! they're hard again. Unless you're working with a character of a non-human species whose sexual anatomy works by different rules, it can't physically happen. (I'm pretty sure even Loveless characters have sex like humans, so yeah.) - Capability and arousal time changes with age. Young adults (20 or so) can get aroused in a few minutes. Older adults (usually 40+) take longer. On writing female characters (Het and yuri)- Spoiler:
- Let me clear a few things up. Yes, women can have multiple orgasms as long as the conditions are right. The type (single, sequential, multiple) varies depending on stimulation, usually. - Contrary to popular belief among writers (who surprisingly seem to be mostly female from what I've found), while the clitoris IS the most sensitive point on a woman's body, direct stimulation can actually be quite painful. And women have been proven to prefer indirect stimulation, for the most part. Yes, there are rare exceptions. But to find a girl who likes direct stimulation, you'd likely have to find a masochist. - Arousal time for females seems to be the opposite of what it is for males. On the whole, young women seem to take more time to become aroused (sometimes the upwards of thirty minutes), while older women get aroused more quickly. - Yes. Women can ejaculate as well, but it is VERY rare. It is a clear fluid that comes from the urethra, rather how semen comes through the male urethra.
I will update this as I find new things to rant about. If you know of something I've missed, please don't hesitate to let me know. | |
